The eastern edge of the Range is an average 23 kilometres from the ocean and conveniently placed, with Maroochydore, Mooloolaba and Caloundra an easy drive, and Noosa about 40 minutes to the north. Brisbane is 100 kilometres south accessed largely by freeway.

Well known in south-east Queensland as a popular tourist destination, the Blackall Range has amazing views of the Glasshouse Mountains as well as coastal vistas covering Moreton Bay, Brisbane and Moreton Island to the south and Noosa and the Cooloola coast to the north. There are some great lookouts dotted along the main road that follows the eastern escarpment.

Waterfalls and rainforests abound in our area. Popular visitor spots are Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve, Baroon Pocket Dam, Kondalilla Falls National Park and Mapleton Falls National Park. The Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk starts at Lake Baroon and winds through the national parks to Mapleton. Well worth doing a section!

Magnificent climate

The average elevation of the Range is around 450 metres which provides a distinct climatic advantage over Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. The area is essentially frost free and up to 4 degrees celsius cooler than the coast in the daytime, summer and winter. The nights are extremely comfortable, being 2 to 4 degrees celsius cooler than the coast in summer, and anything up to 8 degrees celsius warmer overnight in winter. The Blackall Range (approximately 25km long by 8km wide) consists mainly of thick, fertile volcanic basalt loam and is blessed with an average of 1.8 metres (72 inches in the old scale) of rainfall a year. There is also an abundance of ground water which generally is sweet and pure.
